Finally! I’m very happy to say I’ve set up LiveWriter for my WordPress.org blog (rather different from the freebie wordpress.com blog, as the .org blog is self-hosted). This is what the professionals have – the .org. It’s the best, the most secure, the one the computer geeks love… so they say. I say it’s fighting me on every turn: I am still having a learning curve – but I AM winning.

And I’m sure that once I’ve got used to it that I will love it, but at the moment the love is just not happening. Which you may have guessed from the lack of regular posts. What IS happening is frustration, a lot of bad language, and a deep urge to throw in the towel again. However, I refuse to be beaten!

If you want to enter photos wp.org, it’s more of a headache than Blogger in that I can put in a little gallery – which is great – but if I want to add a large single photo, it attaches itself into the gallery. So you have the large image on its own in the post – you also have it in the thumbnail gallery as well. How I fixed this on my altered books post was to enter the large pix on my photobucket and add those codes, and put the rest in from my own computer.

Now I’ve finally managed to get LiveWriter installed on this blog, it should (I hope) make life much easier. See my old post (written on Blogger) which shows how very powerful this format is – and how many photo effects there are.

So hopefully posting now will be a lot more fun.

Two quick tags – same Victorian scrap image, same method… Glimmer Mist sprays, Tim Holtz masks. A different combination of colours makes for very different results.

Great for tags in a hurry!

‘QUEENIE’ and ‘REMEMBER WHEN’ altered books

Remember When

I’ve finally felt able to let these go, and am putting them up for sale on Etsy shortly (once I’ve measured, weighed, calculated postage etc) and I have to say it’s rather a bittersweet experience.

Queenie

I’ve grown very fond of these two pieces, and am kind of loth to say goodbye to them… it’s a bit like leaving your pets in a kennels, or you kid’s first day at school… These art pieces are all grown up now, and about to make their way in the world.

So before they do go, I thought you might like to read the back stories – what inspired me to make these pieces.

Remember When…

The title of the sheet music is ‘What Would I Do Without You?’ and this is what inspired me to create this piece. I already had the two vintage photographs of a man and a woman, and the wedding picture is from a copyright-free source, printed using archival inks and archival quality photo paper.

This altered art piece tells the story of these two meeting and falling in love – and then the bride on her wedding day, remembering the day they first met.

The background music for this piece is ‘As Time Goes By’ (Casablanca) and ‘Love Is The Sweetest Thing’ (Al Bowley).

Queenie…

The Victorian photograph of the little girl inspired me to create this piece: she told me her name was Queenie (named after Queen Victoria, no less!) and she urged me to hunt for her Mama and Papa.

I found Henry and Maud huddling together on a stall in Portobello Road’s antique market. Being older, they were Cabinet Cards in the Vingnette style, and extremely well dressed – but very worried about Queenie, as they couldn’t find her!

So I was very pleased to be able to reunite this little family, and have surrounded them with all their favourite things so that they’ll be hapy living in their new home.

The background music for this piece is ‘Serenade for the Doll’ (Debussy) and ‘Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy’ (Tchaikovsky).

I hope you enjoyed looking at these.

BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS

Yellow Rose – Japanese stab bound album

I’ve just finished photographing two of my handmade books (and listed them on eBay). I particularly love making the books – but there comes a limit as to how many blank journals and albums any one bookshelf can hold! So this makes room… to make more!

Boudoir Journal – Coptic bound journal in handblocked flocked and foiled paper (and 2 tags)

Hope you like them.
